Ranking
12 models, best first. Each bar compares a model with the rest of this list: the best on every point would score 100.
Scores reward a low price, a big lawn size, steep slope ratings and long warranties, all as the makers state them. They don't measure how well a mower maps, avoids obstacles or handles your lawn, so use them to shortlist, then read the model pages.

How the score works
Weights: max lawn size 30, max slope 25, lowest price 25, warranty 20
Weights
- 30
Max lawn size, higher is better.
- 25
Max slope, higher is better.
- 25
Lowest price, lower is better.
- 20
Warranty, higher is better.
Steps
- 1
Each criterion is scaled from 0, the worst of these 12 models, to 1, the best. For lowest price, lower is better, so the lowest value scores 1.
- 2
Each scaled value is multiplied by its weight, and the results are added up to a score out of 100. Models with the same score share a rank.
- 3
A model is ranked only if it has its own page here and a value for every criterion (lowest price $1,500 or less).
Who is ranked
A model needs a current lowest price of $1,500 or less. It also needs a stated mowing area in acres, a stated maximum slope and a warranty in years. Twelve models qualify, from $679 to $1,499.99. Mowing area carries the most weight here, then slope and price, then warranty. Slope is the maker's stated maximum, not a tested result.
Models over the cap are left out even when they would score well. The Ecovacs GOAT O1000 LiDAR PRO is $1,499.99 but has no listed mowing area, so it is not ranked.
How to use this list
Prices change, and a model near the cap can move above it. Check the model page for the current price and store before you buy. At this budget, mowing area is the limit: the largest model on this list covers 0.74 acre, so a bigger lawn needs a higher budget or a split into zones. Cheaper models often suit flat or gently sloped lawns. Also check what the price includes. Some models need extra setup items. Our installation and setup guide covers what to plan for.
