Ranking
22 models, best first. Each bar compares a model with the rest of this list: the best on every point would score 100.
Scores reward a low price, a big lawn size, steep slope ratings and long warranties, all as the makers state them. They don't measure how well a mower maps, avoids obstacles or handles your lawn, so use them to shortlist, then read the model pages.

How the score works
Weights: max lawn size 40, price per acre 30, cutting width 30
Weights
- 40
Max lawn size, higher is better.
- 30
Price per acre, lower is better.
- 30
Cutting width, higher is better.
Steps
- 1
Each criterion is scaled from 0, the worst of these 22 models, to 1, the best. For price per acre, lower is better, so the lowest value scores 1.
- 2
Each scaled value is multiplied by its weight, and the results are added up to a score out of 100. Models with the same score share a rank.
- 3
A model is ranked only if it has its own page here and a value for every criterion.
Who is ranked
A model needs a stated mowing area in acres, a current price and a cutting width in inches. We rank 22 models, with stated areas from 0.12 to 2.5 acres. Mowing area carries the most weight. Price per acre and cutting width each count for the rest. Price per acre is the lowest price divided by the stated acres. Models with no listed area, such as three Ecovacs models and the Worx WR220, are not ranked.
The areas are the makers' figures. Check what lawn layout they assume.
How to use this list
Many models on this list are small, so look at the actual acres before you read the order. Lawns with trees, beds, slopes or narrow passages take longer than the maker's figure suggests, so choose a model rated above your lawn size. A wider cut helps, but runtime and charging also matter. If your lawn is split into separate areas, check how the model handles zones. Our guide to choosing a robot lawn mower explains how to size a model for your lawn.
